We considered it

.
.

We considered it a duty,
If not an honor
It’s not a thing of beauty
To take the lives of others

It was the law
We answered the call
Our great country started
By patriots…after all

Their blood flowed
And watered the liberty tree

Taken by force
From tyrants
Given by choice
From men who were free

At Concord
At Lexington
At Bunker Hill
They paid the bill

So we, of freedom
Might eat our fill

And the table was laden
With all kinds of fine food
To not take full advantage
Would have been considered
Rude

And our country grew
From sea to sea
From thirteen small colonies
To a union strong, and true

We quarreled like siblings
At Shiloh and Chickamauga
We fought injustice
At home and abroad

At Verdun
At Normandy
In the snow at Inchon
In the heat at Quang Tri
In Kuwait
In Falujah

Time and again
We answered the call
Of friend and allies
And all those downtrodden

You gave us medals
Of silver and Bronze
With ribbons of
Red, White and Blue

We asked not for Honors
They left our hearts Cold
All we asked was for you

To love us…………

As we have loved you
