........is a powerful force. And apparently can exist in places and situations where you would least expect it.
Yesterday I had been trying to get some mud to dry all day and into the evening hours.
I had a ceramic dish about half full on a hot plate when I first started and by dark had it down to the point where it was beginning to show signs of most of the moisture being out of it. I would go out and check it occasionally and stir it with one of the wife's long tea spoons.
Anywho, I went out after dark for another stir and look at it.
As I touched the teaspoon to the dish the damn mud exploded and everything went black as much of it was in my eyes and all over me. Couldn't see a thing. Managed to get back up to the deck and feel my way to the door where I got the wife to lead me to the kitchen sink.
After much water splashed in my eyes I was able to see, although my eyebones felt like you had poured a pound of sand in them, and my eyelids were burned somewhat.
Apparently the bowl had picked up a static charge from the heat and the cold dry air we've been having, and much like when you scrub your stocking feet over the carpet and then touch the door knob a spark is created. Although this was like a M80 firecracker more than a spark.
Just damn. No lasting damage other than to my pride and wallet.
Maybe I'll tell you about the power of lightning displayed on my farm 25 years or so ago, someday.
Wish I could have fed the spark back into the power line last nite. Might cut my power bill by 10 or 20 $.

........BILL OF RIGHTS, as amendments that really defined this country. Especially the original 12 amendments. I will defend to the death your right to free speech, or your right to keep and bear arms..
Now they have said that you have a right, under the constitution, to burn an American Flag, as part of your right to free speech, as expressing your feelings.
Just be aware that I will exercise me right and responsibility under the oath I took many years ago when I joined the army, to run over and kick your sorry ass and do my damnedest to shove that burning flag down you throat or up your ass.
But I am really steamed over the defacement that was allowed to happen by the very people who had a responsiblilty to prevent it this past saturday.
The leaders of the capitol police who told them to retreat should be hung for treason or at the very least reduced in rank to the lowest in the force and then fired for cause.
I intend to write to both my Senators and my congressman, and also to all the congressional delagates from Georgia about this and make my feelings known and promise in no way to support any of them in the next elections unless they take action on this matter, and to report back to me in writing of the actions they have taken or not taken and their reasons why.
I encourgage every person who stops by here to send a similar request to all those who stop by their blog to do the same.
Congress needs to feel the heat on this one people. You don't have to do anything.
But, if you don't, you'll deserve the government you get.
You can't hide under the vines on this one.
The link to get the address of your congress critters is HERE
I'd love to hear what your representive has to say.
I'll let you know what mine say.

I'm jst sitting here at the puter and I hear the TV two rooms away, where the spousal unit and her father are watching the evening news.
And as sometimes happens your ear picks out something that you have a strong opinion on, even though your weren't really listening to the news.
Apparently they had a big anti-war ralley in D. C. today.. This female was speaking to a reporter and she says, "I'm so sorry that we are having to do this today. We didn't learn the lessons of Vietnam".
What a waste of space between a pair of ears.
If you can't see the differences between the war in South Vietnam and Iraq, you are just about to dumb to draw breath. Hopefully the dumb bitch doesn't have any children. I'd hate to think she's propagating her kind. But she probably is, and since I didn't see her or know anthing about her, I can't go and rid the world of a pimple on the asshole of the world.
For those of you who have forgotten, we got involved in Vietnam, for better or worse because we had a treaty that required us to do so. South Vietnam, having been divided from North Vietnam by that worthless pile of moldering Excretment called the United Nations (pause to spit) signed a treaty with many of her neighbors and the U.S. that if any of the signors were attacked the others would come to the aid of their treaty partner, which we, the U.S., Australia, Republic Of South Korea, Tiawan, and I don't know if any others contributed or not, did. A lawful and required action under the terms of the treaty. If a man, or a country give their word, they aren't honorable unless they keep that word.
Yes, it did turn into a cluster fuck. But, not because of a lack of heroism and committment on the part of the american fighting men, but, rather because of politicians seeking votes from this constituancy or other and caring nothing about honor (a disease that inflects them even more today). We litteraly had the war won three times that I know of and the North Vietnamese have admitted, when the gutless politicians in D.C. (pause to spit) bargined it away, caring nothing for honor and the valour of their troops. A large number of our own citizens share the shame and dishonour of that disgrace.
Now we are engaged in the defining struggle of our time and the time of the next generation.
Let us not forget that we are the ones being attacked, before 9/11 and after. We could identify the enemy. The previous administration had identifyed the same enemy. The difference was the magnitude of the attack and the outrage of the citizenry and the fact that we had a President who took seriously his oath of office to defend the constitution of this country and by implication the country and with the overwhelming support of this country answered this implicant announcement of war on us by an identifiable enemy with force.
We soundly kicked the Taliban and Al Queda in Afganistan's collective asses.
We identified and other countries such as france (pause to spit) Germany, Even the Vaunted U.N. (gag me with a maggot) declared that So damn Insane the dictator of Iraq was a danger and supported the Al Queda and their terrorists, AND that he was working toward having weapons of mass destruction.
So we Acted, as any soverign Nation worthy of holding its head up would, by acting under a U.N. (pause to vomit) resolution, and with the support of the majority of the Congress (Shaking head in disgust) of both the democan, and republicrats.
Some of you were too young to remember the shame and humiliation of this country, after Nixon, Ford, and Jimmy Carter (Pig piss be upon him and his house forever).
We were a pitiable lot let me tell you, trembling at our shadow, like a dog shitting razor blades.
We outgrew it, we overcame it, we directly were responsibe for the failure of Communism in the USSR. The world became a better place, a more optimistic place. But instead of answering small attackes on us during the Clinton years with determination and resolve, we ignored them and and focused on his diliance with a 21 year old intern who had stated clearly her resolve to a friend of 'going to Washington and earning her kneepads.
So, we have come to this........
.......What does the future hold?
Will we be mice......

.......I can still remember....
A book that I read by Dr. Gary North, called 'The Politics of Envy'.
I had never given much thought to envy. I thought that it was about the same as jealousy, as in, 'I am jealous of his good fortune' or, I am envious of his good fortune. As I said I thought I knew the definitions, and thought they were interchangeable.
Dr. North wrote that envy was much the worse, because if you were envious of someones good fortune, or looks, or car you wanted what they had for yourself and didn't want them to have it either.
Herewith, the definitions of both, you decide.
1. Fearful or wary of being supplanted; apprehensive of losing affection or position.
a. Resentful or bitter in rivalry; envious: jealous of the success of others.
b. Inclined to suspect rivalry.
3. Having to do with or arising from feelings of envy, apprehension, or bitterness: jealous thoughts.
4. Vigilant in guarding something: We are jealous of our good name.
5. Intolerant of disloyalty or infidelity; autocratic: a jealous God.
[Middle English jelous, from Old French gelos, jealous, zealous, from Vulgar Latin *zlsus, from Late Latin zlus, zeal; see zeal.]
n. pl. en·vies
a. A feeling of discontent and resentment aroused by and in conjunction with desire for the possessions or qualities of another.
b. The object of such feeling: Their new pool made them the envy of their neighbors.
2. Obsolete Malevolence.
tr.v. en·vied, en·vy·ing, en·vies
1. To feel envy toward.
2. To regard with envy.
[Middle English envie, from Old French, from Latin invidia, from invidus, envious, from invidre, to look at with envy : in-, in, on; see en-1 + vidre, to see; see weid- in Indo-European roots. V., from Middle English envien, from Old French envier, from Latin invidre.]
I think what Dr. North was trying to make reference to was the resentment aspect of Envy. Where people who are less wealthy are envious of those more wealthy, and resent them for having more than they.
The premise of the book was that many of the laws passed in this country arise from the desire of a large portion of the populace to punish those who had more of whatever those without did not have.
I believe he is right.
What brings this line of thought on you ask. As well you might..
Our neighbor came over this evening and asked if we had noticed someone at her home today. Apparently her storage shed had been broken into and every thing in it taken.
I had noticed someone this morning and allowed as how I had. Descriptions as best I had followed. (not the best I'm afraid, since I thought I had seen the truck there before).
Her brother, she suspected, and promptly dragged me over to repeat my observations to the police officer there.
She is moving it turned out and everything was mostly out of the house. However I had only known that she had her property for sale, not that she was for all intents moved out already.
People, being people, there will always be those who try to get something for nothing, or very little effort.
I hope I'm not one of them. I don't begrudge anyone anything they have.. Oh, there are many things I wish for that I don't have. But, not at someone else's expense.
And the richer a person becomes, as long as he obtains that wealth honestly, the more pleased I am for them.
I hope the lady gets her stuff back. And if it is her brother.......I hope she kicks him in the balls before they haul his sorry ass off to jail.
I didn't say I don't have a little vindictive streak.

........that's what some parts of the world want the USA to do.
People like Hugo Chavez and Kim Jong IL, Amalamadingdong, and many others too numerous to mention (plus I hold them in such low regard, why should I try?).
It seems that wherever someone wants to impose their will on either their own country, someone else's country, their local township or the whole world for that matter, they feel that they have to first run down whoever is top dog at the moment.
For this moment and most of the moments since 1945, it has been The Republic of the United States of America. (wouldn't it be nice if that was this countries official title used in every instance when refering to the Union of States that we call 'the' USA.)
Why, I ask myself?? They didn't run down the old USSR. Of course the soviets were almost as bad as some of the assholes running around today. Except, of course, they knew they were lying to the world the whole time. Hell if we hadn't kept them fed thru loans, grants and most favored nation status they would have starved probably in the '60's or '70's.
Only reason they lasted so long is the proponderance of The Socialist media and so called pundits and commentators. As also the weak spined and willed so called Congress critters in D.C.
Call me crazy if you want, but if anyone was really a staunch anti-Communist like the late Larry McDonald,(remember him?) they were eliminated or ridiculed by anyone with a public voice.
Of course most of the citizens of this country (not my noble 8 or 10 readers, of course) want some one to take care of them, and then like most half-witted creatures, resent the hell out of anyone who will take care of them, either by choice (the politicians who are so willing to use YOUR money (which represents a portion of your life and effort), or the unwilling (the rich) where according to IRS statistics the top top 16% pay 85% of the income taxes collected each year. Don't tell me you would let them take such a large share of your paycheck (remember; your life, time and effort)if they didn't force you to by force of law, or your own fear. And don't give me any crap about the evil corporations not paying their fair share. They don't pay taxes. It's just money they get from their customers and pass along as a cost of doing business.
I guess what I'm trying to get around to in between all this ranting and rambling is this,........
What do you think would happen around the world, if tomorrow all of our troops were pulled back inside our borders, our ships and aircraft only patrolling out to the international border lines around our country. If all of our manufacturing and production capablities were actually here in this country and those of other countries moved at once to anywhere but here?
Would the dictators, do-gooders, Islamofacists, socialists and the like, then only play among themselves and point their fingers at us as taking our ball and going home, or would they realise that they could not survive nearly as well without the great free (for the time being) enterprise system we have here? Or would they try to overthrow us and take our wealth (of all kinds) for their due?
I don't know. I do know that it erks me no end to have to listen to every one and their brother cut down the remnants of a once, and perhaps future, Great Republic.
Guess it's a good thing that I have the kudzu to keep me occupied. Ya thin?

......in Northern I Corps, South Vietnam when I was just awed at the beauty of the country.
There were sunsets and sunrises which would absolutly take your breath away.
Mountains just totally covered in triple canopy jungle, which rose almost vertically from the valley floor, four, five, seven thousand feet into the air.
As a fling wing gunship pilot, I have made gun runs over waterfalls which cascaded one after the other thousands of feet to the narrow valley floor upon which the enemy had the misfortune to be spotted.
Plateus such as Khe Shan, which rose vertically at the end of a long narrow valley to 2000 feet above sea level and then flattened out to a broad plane bordered by mountains and streching to Laos along QL9 to Co Roc on the border, and to 5000' vertical mountains in the Tri Border, where N. Vietnam, S. Vietnam and Laos met.
Got quite a shock one fine day as we were hunting along the southen wall of the mountains there. A wall of black rock that probably rose 3000 ft from the base to almost the top. We were circling our scout with our northern arc maybe 2000 feet up with the wall maybe 500 feet from us when my copilot screamed, "there's people on the mountain"!! That'll get your attention real quick like.
Closer examination showed them to be Rock Apes, (OK, maybe they weren't technically Rock Apes, but we didn't know better) only there for the sceanry, but let me assure you, hearts were in throats since they held the high ground. We let them live, to enjoy the sights another day.
So I can appreciate Michaels article on some of the fauna in Iraq. If you're not reading him, you could do worse things than check him out from time to time.
War, as Sherman is supposed to have said, 'is Hell', but there are times as Patton is supposed to have said 'God help me, I do love it so'.

There I am, cruising south on 441 with the cruise control set at 65 on the Jag, minding my own freaking business when a yearling Turkey Vulture , or Buzzard as we call them here, hops off a deer carcass and crashes directly into the lower left part of the windshield.
Oh, no doubt he's dead. Sounded like you had dropped a dead body from the top of the Super Bowl.
Spider web cracks about a foot across. Lucky no damage other than that.
Does anyone know where I can get a cheap windshield for a '98 Jag XJ8?
I generally have good feelings towards buzzards. They provide a valuable service of helping rid the country side of decaying carcasses. I mean they'll eat till they have to puke and then go right back to eating. Get so gorged that they can't fly. Likely what happened to this guy. Over max gross weight and tried to take off downwind.
But, man can they soar when they get into the air. As an old fling wing driver, I have to admire their ability to ride the wind. It'd almost be worth eating dead rotting, bloated carrion just to be able to fly like that.

..As if it were necessary to prove that our own Government Does not have our, THE PEOPLE'S interests at heart.
You need to READ THIS and consider who our enemys are, Who conspires against us, Who vows to bring this country down to the status of a third world country.
I'll probably add more to this later. Right now their is a RCOB over my vision and I need to ruminate while on the road today.
Update: This still rubs me the wrong way. It is easy to say that the country is going to hell in a handbasket. But it seems as if every time you turn around we hear of how this or that country is an enemy. Then the next day or so we hear of how we're giving them so much in foreign aid, or showing them thru the pentegon, or a top secret military site, or training their officers in the school of the Americas.
Do you ever think that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing up in the Asylum on the Potomic.
I realize that this country is really ruled by someone other than the president or the congress, but, you'd think that they would want the to keep the engine that keeps most of the world running in better shape. Perhaps they have more willing pawns or cheaper to buy pawns in third world countries.
It seems that Freedom is just a word they throw out to us to make us feel better.
I'm thinking we better be building and planning on how to get to Galt's Gulch sooner rather than latter. If you know not of which I speak it might behoove you to look it up. Study it. It's only 58 years old, but so prophetic.
If you have no concept of why freedom is good perhaps you might one day read The Law, or Proofs of a conspiricy.
If'n I knew how to get people to do it, I would not have anything to do with anyone who had not read The Law . It would be a small but courageous group.

.........if th' Bastards are really out to get you !
Unfortunately those who have lived with me and those who have know me for any length of time know of my propensity for ranting and raving about "Them" "They" "The powers that be", and the government in particular.
I had the fortune to be born long enough ago so that most of what we were taught about this country and the Constitution and Declaration of Independence was mostly correct. I know that the winners always write history books, but for the most part you could still ferret out the truth is you were willing to read enough and try to analyze what you had read. (back before you were taught that everyone was the same and had an equal right to what you produced and earned)
Bane may call me a losertarian, but I'm, I think, rightly proud to have for the most part considered myself a libertarian. How can a right thinking person ever want anything but liberty. In the old classical sense.
Our System of Government was set up with the ideal that we elected representatives to serve our interests in congress, and they were rightly called Public servants.
Now however, we watch what they do or don't do in D.C. and too many are thinking that what we are is getting Hosed over, and over, and over, and over again and again. Some of us are getting a little sore and raw, irritated by the lack of lubricant. So 'they' keep coming up with little ways to bend us to their will.
What I keep thinking is, (and this is probably not a correct quote here)
Rage, Rage, go not quietly into that dark night.
Just a little rage from the kudzu patch.

From News of the Weird, comes this fascinating little tidbit.
Scamming the Horny Panda: One trick that zookeepers have used to get male pandas interested in mating with dowdier females (according to a December dispatch from Sichuan, China, in Australia's The Age) is to let an attractive female roam around a pen, leaving her scent, and then, in darkness, with the male in the pen and frisky at the scent, to introduce the less attractive female into the pen, back-end first, so that the pre-excited male will quickly begin copulating. Said zookeeper Zhang Hemin, "When the males find out (that they've just mated with unintended partners), they get very angry and start fighting the female. We have had to use firecrackers and a water hose to separate them." [The Age (Melbourne), 12-17-06]
Now ladies, can you all truthfully state before a jury of your peers that your never had a more attractive friend do the trolling for you?
And Guys? Can you state categorically that your standards don't go down as closing time draws near?

We kept our newest granddaughter last night and today.
So we were the first to see her crawl on her hands and knees today, instead of just rolling or wiggling like a little worm.
Amazing how fast she mastered the major requirements of crawling once she discovered that she could actually get somewhere that way. You could almost see the little light bulb go on in here little bald head.
She turned 7 months old on the 5th of January. Now if she would just get some teeth, and a little more hair.
Oh, yeah. She had to be mad as a hornet that nanny left her with me to go to the kitchen. She would crawl a little and just bawl. But, she did it.
Watching grandchildren grow up is more fun that watching your own. Experience tells you that they'll probably get thru everything their supposed to.

.......but,I realised that I have pondered this for years... so.....
inelagantly put, perhaps, but here goes.
LL posted This the other day, and it started picking at my brain.
I'm a baby boomer. I was born in Dec. 1949, not too many years after WWII.
With the exception of 6 yrs in the military, I lived until I was 35 on a dairy farm.
I was familiar with the circle of life from my earliest recollection. I witnessed births of cattle, dogs, cats. I watched as cows and bulls mated. I saw them get sick or injured. I saw them die, and in many cases helped them die.
We ate beef that we had grown. Also pork, game birds, fish of all kinds, and vegetables that we grew with our own efforts and the grace of God.
I wondered as a young man about the existence of God. Did he have a hand in the creation of this earth and all that in it is. Why would he go to the trouble, seeing as how we had wars, crime, all sorts of evil. Even 40 yrs ago, and I see no lessening of it today.
But I did finally receive a personal revelation to me that he does exist. I had only wondered before this, not disbelieving, just not sure.
What? you say, has this to do with being raised on a dairy farm?
My Grandfather, my Uncle and my father all were topnotch farmers and improvers of the stewardships placed in their hands. Farming is hard work, and you have to keep improving your stock to increase the amount of milk given for a given input of feed, husbandry and genetics.
When I read of stories like the one in LL'ss post, I wonder why instead of improving the genetics and capabilities of the human race, we seem to be devolving in some very important ways.
I know all about the abilities and knowledge of our scientists and learned men and women. But, doesn't it seem that we have more and more of the type of, I hate to say it, subhuman underclass that pulls us as a whole down? I mean, is it really necessary to wear your pants and underwear where the faintest breeze will cause them to drop and trip you.
By the time many children reach kindergarten age most of them have seen more of killing and violence than the most seasoned and hardened combat veteren.
Let's face it. Men will sow their seed in a knothole if nothing else presents its self. But their is no need to seek your pleasure or preference in lowness no matter your gender. I can't believe the number of women who will let themselves be treated as a knothole and accept it as no more than their due.
You can talk of your feminisim all you want. I'm all for strong, independent women. Knowledgable and capable. But look at the way many young girls act. Their heroines are Paris Hilton, (bet her grandfather is spinning in his grave) Brittany Spears. Her darling dad advised her on her career. (nothing but the best for his little slut)
Have we forgotten how to strive to better ourselves so as to improve the society within which we live. You don't have to look far no matter where you live to see examples of the meanness to which some people will descend. It is rampant in our culture.
I admit that most people which we all know, seem to be people you would like and want to associate with. But I know that we are all aware of that of which I speak.
The question is, Do we as a human race need to be more selective in our breeding, or in our nuturing?
Just wondering, and wandering, out here in the Kudzu, still seeking answers........

She sent me this today.

I'm thinking it's time for a caption contest.
That is if your eyes didn't burst from you head like ripe scuppernongs, and slide stickily down your cheeks to splatter as they reach the floor.
Lets have fun with this.

.......Stuffed to the proverbial Gills.
Today started off with my being late.
I sat up till 1:00pm watching Kill Bill 1 & 2 last night. Normally I wouldn't watch such since bloodletting leaves me cold. Literally, cold both in my heart and brain.
I already know of the rage for vengenace that can wind around your soul like....
.......well... read the title of the blog. : BANE already thinks I'm too obsessed with the vine.
But something about the cartoon aspect and "Camp" degree held my attention, and I wanted to see it to the end just to see how it ended.
Anyway, I awoke late. Thankful for the shower last night, I hurried to shave and dress to go to meeting. New to the area, I was greeted with delight by some and ignored by those others who had something else on their minds. Nevertheless it was good to attend again.
As to the being stuffed......
.....My better half celebrated her 39th wedding anniversary Thursday by being so tired that staying home and resting was the order of the day.
So being the Kind and Generous Soul that I am, and having a promise from Ebeneezer of him paying for a Steak Dinner at the time of our choosing for working on his rental house...
......To Outback we went as soon as I arrived back at home.
Into the Blue Jag we piled, and drove about 8 miles in a driving rain to the object of both our desires.
First of all came the traditional "blooming onion". Now that has to be an artery clogger. Too good to be otherwise. Followed by a nice salad with just the right amount of dressing. Oh, and the bread and butter. I don't know how they get that dark color yeast bread, but your could troll me anywhere in the world with the heady scent of that loaf.....
Just as that was enjoyed, and fully consumed...
.......the main Course.
Oh, the joy of being a carnivour and having placed before you Medium Rare Prime Rib.
Lightly seasoned with steamed veggies. A slightly teriyaki tasting sauce to dip each tender, moist and delectable bite into. Makes you put down your knife and fork and chew blissfully each bite so as to get the greatest taste sensations on your tongue, before flushing it down the throat and hungerily, ravenously, rapidly slicing off another bite to experience it once again.
Can you tell that we don't get out much and certainly not to a place where they bring your food out on real plates. Styrofoam being much more ecologically sensitive don't you know.
Satiated, we drove back to reality, where a required Sabbath nap allowed all that digesting cow to settle.
Ahhhhhh, all is right with the world.
Oh, and wonder of wonders, I was linked by my hero : BANE .

Your Deadly Sins
Chance You'll Go to Hell: 14%
You will die while sleeping - and no one will notice.
I'm lazy.. Too lazy even to lust with a great deal of enthusiasm. Oh yeah, and I eat too much.. We'll tell me something I didn't know.
Thanks Eric , one hell of a lot for the link and subsuquent blow to my self esteem. Even if I'm not going to Hell, If everyone is like me it'll be a damn dull place. I don't even know how to play a kazoo much less a harp. And as for singing........fergiddaboutit. I'd scare every one else off the cloud.

.......of collard greens, black eyed peas, and hog meat were consumed down at Eldest daughters today. This to ensure that the New Year will see me with plenty of coin, and green in my pockets this year. Up to me I suppose to try to hang on to a little of it.
All this washed down by diet Mtn. Dew, and topped off with a wedge of Waffle House Pecan (pronounced pee cawn) pie. Ohhhh the sugary goodness of that traditional artery buster is hard to beat.
Eldest daughters only Son, the mighty deerslayer himself, added to his already large count of carcasses with two more this morning early. Eldest daughter is happy because the freezers are filled to overflowing and they may have to give some of this latest venison away.

After a very necessary nap after this faboulous repast, The main spousal unit and I returned to The Classic City, and old Ebernezer Scrooge himself. He had to eat turnip greens which he hates. Oh well, we tried to get him to come with us.
Well, back to the salt mines tomorrow for a lot of you people. Me? I'll probably try to come up with some scheme to obtain enough money to pay a few of the bills. Without seeming to work at much of anything..
Anyway, off to a good start I hope. LOL to all of you out there who wander by here from time to time. Thanks.
