Sunday Evening with out the big screen tv

At the end of what seems like a long day, (long enough for a little nappy po right after lunch) I begin to reflect on the almost over Thanksgiving extended weekend.
On Thursday the kudzu wife and I journeyed down to her sister's house for turkey and dressing, giblet gravy and sweet potato souflee.  SIL's daughter and newish husband were there along with daughters son by first marriage and his friend John.  Big boy.......Big appetite.  Also attending were SIL's platonic boyfriend and his young son.  A great time.......I did not have too much to drink.

Friday was a clean up day here at the new Kudzu Grotto (I'm searching for a better name) a 112 year old house and acreage.  With assignments from the kudzu wife I started early and stayed at it until late.  Cleaning and dusting......those little things, while the KW was preparing pumpkin pie, cheese cake, two largest turkey breasts.  (man those things were smelling good)  We were looking forward to the first full family get together in the KG.

Saturday arrived and people started arriving before noon.  Son's in law started the fish fryer up to deep fry some cubed wild turkey breasts.  (be still my beating heart, not a piece left over for munching on today.

Georgia trounced Georgia Tech at the dome in Atlanta which looked great on the old JVC big screen we scrounged from neighbor when he upgraded to plasma years ago.  Got through the game and then since nothing else of interest was on the boob tube was turned over to the teenagers to play games on.
Somehow before they left the volume had completely quit.  That's nice when you're wanting people to just leave already, but not so much if you want to chill out with mindless tv before bed.

So maybe the day seemed long because of no TV, but hey, I got some pecans picked up, ensured the well was adequately covered for the cooler weather that's coming.

I did have some time yesterday to discuss politics and economic conditions with some.  We're all sort of thrashing around trying to keep businesses afloat in what seems like hopeless conditions at the present.  The good things for the elders is we're either out of debt or getting closer.  Still we worry about the younguns, even though some are over 40.

Somehow I suspect that we'll all be judging people by the marks poised by ol' Rudyard in the coming months and years.

If
by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

I think we'll all know a lot more  by the time next Thanksgiving rolls around.

Let the chips Fall!

 Just my opinion

David,
As your attempt to meet with Isakson shows, the GOP establishment does not want Tea Party advice.  In their arrogance they believe they have all the answers.
IMO we don't need them.  The old establishment has to fail,  and will.   Let it!!  They have purposely let it get to the point of destruction because they have only the ideas of the past.  They are welded at the hipbone with the money lenders, bankers, printers, crony capitalists, war-makers and defense (so called.  How much money would they make if peace broke out) industrialists.
Power-brokerage is their business and life.
Again, IMO, we need to concentrate on building up 9/12 groups, Tea Partiers who have not bought into the establishment, true constutionalists and others of like mind.
If we become big, strong, committed and numerous......including all True Freedom Lovers on the right and the left, and believe me they are out there (go watch the Glenn Beck show from last night)
THEN........will we have something with which to compete and win.  We will have to create a new paradigm in education, politics and government..........and the established order will fight us tooth and nail.  Hell fire............we're all ready doing it amongst ourselves.
We are going to have to first form into tribes on a local level, committed to one another, then to the next tribe, until we are ready to form a NEW Nation conceived in Liberty (sorry Abe).
Let the old regime fall...........

Only then will the people be ready to learn about liberty and freedom again.

What say you?

Nothing has changed

Well, it sure didn't take long for the republicrats to show they learned nothing from the last election, did it?

Mark Rubio, Newt and all the rest of the good ol' boys have jumped all over Mitt Romney for saying what we all know to be true.

The democians won the presidential election because of the gifts Obama handed out.

OH No!!!!

We can't be alienating any potential votes for us by telling the truth, can we?

We can't say that women want free contraception including abortions all paid for by somebody else

We can't say that people want 2 years of unemployment paid for by somebody else

We can't say that we would rather give out free housing, food and entertainment to the socially disadvantaged in order to keep them from throwing cement blocks from the overpasses

We can't say that the poor, poor, pitiful poor in this country live a lifestyle several orders of magnitude better than  90% of the rest of the world

We can't say that it wouldn't affect the rest of us one whit that some women want to marry other women, or that some men would like the opportunity to do the same, when for decades we've worked to destroy the institute of marriage by paying unwed mothers to not only give birth to their bastards but support them the rest of their lives

We can't say that it's OK to drink one drug or inhale as many mind altering drugs as possible as long as a medical doctor writes the prescription, but don't you dare try to gain access to other substances we've labeled as illegal, because we need a war on them in order to keep our prisons full and provide employment to petty dictators wearing a badge  an a holier than thou attitude

We can't say we have to support the armament industries by bombing the shit out of third world countries.  We're spreading democracy don't you know.  (The founding fathers would shoot us out of hand for using the word democracy)

A political party that would rather cater to the most base emotions rather than stand on principal is not one I will join.

On the other hand, a political party that would have me as a member is not one I'd join anyway!

Many voting districts......

...in several states recorded 99% to 100% of the voters voted for the democrat standing for president.

Statistically that seems a little bit odd.

Doesn't it?

Hmmmm........wonder if there is anything fishy there?

http://fellowshipofminds.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/why-the-gop-will-not-do-anything-about-vote-fraud/

Of course it's not like the gop is our friend either.  Is it?

What the heck just happened?

Maybe I need this outlet for my thoughts more than you do.

That's OK.  It's not like I do it for money or anything.  I'm just shouting down the canyon to hear my voice echo back and forth.

Sent the following out to a small group near The Classic City.  I thought the link worth  forwarding .

Good Sunday Morning to you all.

As 9/12 members, Tea Party members, conservatives, republicans, patriots, .........whatever we choose to identify ourselves by, we have spent over a week and a half wondering what the heck happened on Oct 6th.  Where did we, or the republicans go wrong? What could we have done differently?

What can we do to change the future?  Do we need to be kinder, more gentle, more inclusive?  Did we not appeal to the GLTB crowd, the women voters, the Latino block, the people of color?  WTH??  Do we need to join the Republicrat party?  Become more like the Demoicans?

I read a blogpost over the weekend that, perhaps, may give some thoughts for reflection.  It's more than one or two paragraphs so if you're not prepared to read for a few minutes don't bother to click this

Link:  http://smallthoughts.com/blog/permalink/0183.html

Perhaps.........(and here I take on the role of devils advocate)...we shouldn't worry so much about turning the clock back; rather we might consider pushing for the future a little faster.

Then again, .........maybe I ought to consider increasing my medications.  Hummmm??

There are still Men who inspire

us alive today.  And as many women (gotta be politically and honestly correct here, lest the overlords come down on me) I'm sure.

Am I optimistic??

Almost two month since I've felt up to posting here.

Sick?

No.

Just a general feeling that I'd better be doing more to prepare our personal lives for the continued downward spiral our so called civilization is taking down the enameled throne.

Perhaps this will explain in part why.

http://youtu.be/4R4KtYVF-74

Cause for thought, methinks.

We continue to slowly work on the new place.  We are coming up on six months here in 4 days.
Still much, much to be done.  And likely much will still likely to need doing in six more months.

I was scrounging around for a door to put on the well house.  The original interior doors had been left in an open shed down behind the galvanized man cave.  Just placed on the ground edge down.
Termites had eaten a little on a few of them.
When I started taking the cracked and peeling paint off the one selected for the well house, I found this.......

Evidently I had the wrong button pushed on the camera.  Real Tech whiz....that's me.
Can you see the close grain heart pine.  Hard to find anymore.  This is what the whole house is built of.  If there's ever a fire it won't last 10 minutes.

Check out the antique door latches.

I'm thinking I'm going to salvage ever piece of these doors possible.  Never know when I might have an artistic moment strike me someday.

Real Unemployment Numbers

Reluctantly the Gov't admits that the unemployment numbers rose slightly to 8.3%.  Not bad.......

Until, that is, you start digging a little deeper

 http://www.cnbc.com/id/48468748

If you try to find out what the real U6 numbers are...

http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/surveymost

you find the information is not available at this time.

Do they really believe we are that Stupid.

I've got news for them.

We're not Stupid.

Well, if you depend on the gov't for a living you might be.

It's raining

Seems appropriate......

Later today the Kudzu Wife and I will travel south a couple hours for the viewing of my aunt Mary Lou, my fathers younger sister.
This, just four weeks since we lay my uncle Jim to rest.
While Jim's passing was expected as he'd had heart problems for several years, aunt Mary Lou's caught me off guard.  At a family reunion three weeks ago she seemed in good spirits and reasonable health.  Of course, she was eighty years old and the heat was a hellish 100 + degrees.  That will wilt anyone's cool and we bustled her into the dining facility where the air conditioning was a blessing.
She and I had talked much of some of her memories of growing up on my Grandfather Oscar's dairy farm and event from her early life.  I had every intention (of which the road to hell is paved) of traveling down to her home to record some family history.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, a WWII POW veteran, and one son.  She leaves behind sons and a daughter, Son-in-law and daughter's in law, many grand children, maybe even great grand children for all I know, and many nieces and nephews, especially one who will remember her for her courage in the face of adversity, and a beautiful smile that lit up every place I ever saw her
She will be missed.

None Dare

Not many people have watched, listened or read reports of the shooting in Colorado without cringing from the horror that was inflicted in that movie theater.  And not only in the theater.  Horror that such an event could take place in any town, to any group of people, their families, neighbors, sons and daughters.

It is such a horror that most people after the first few days of reportage just want to tune it out.  After all, 'it couldn't happen here, could it'?

From Neal;  http://www.zombie-slayer.com/neal/

“Our main agenda is to have ALL guns banned. We must use whatever means possible. It doesn’t matter if you have to distort facts or even lie. Our task of creating a socialist America can only succeed when those who would resist us have been totally disarmed.”
So you see, they do plan on trying to disarm the people, and take away their ability to resist. Our founders warned us about this as well. George Mason clearly stated that ” To disarm the people….is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” Andrew Fletcher said, ” The possession of arms is the distinction of a free man from a slave.” James Madison explained that ” The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.” Therefore, if the government does not trust us to keep and bear arms, why in God’s name should we trust them?
The government has already shown its willingness to disarm the American people in times of crisis. Just look back at the actions of the New Orleans Police and the National Guard during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and you will see that the government will go door to door confiscating your guns, even though you have done absolutely nothing to warrant such confiscations. If they did it then, you can bet your ass they will do it again in the event of another full scale crisis.
Add to that the fact that the odds are that the U.S. will sign the UN Arms Trade Treaty. We the people did not elect the UN to represent us, and they have no legal authority to restrict our right to possess firearms. Yet, according to former Ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, that is exactly what this treaty will do. Bolton is quoted as saying that the treaty “is trying to act as though this is really just a treaty about international arms trade between nation states, but there is no doubt that the real agenda here is domestic firearms control.”
None of this may mean anything to you as you may not own guns, or you may not notice that your freedom is being eroded. But it damn sure worries me. I could honestly care less if you choose to deny the obvious truth that your government is out to enslave you. Unfortunately, the actions of the government will affect me as much as they affect you. However, as Henry Ford once said, ” Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason so few engage in it.” Well, I have certainly provided you with a lot to think about. So I will allow it to sink in while I return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Certainly there are deranged people living among us.  (I suspect I have been suspect from time to time)  But, there seems to me that whenever an event, a crisis, a happening is needed to either turn our attention away from, or towards, whatever is wanted by the PTB, such an event comes to pass.

Deranged............your guess is as good as any.

What if?

..just one person with a concealed carry permit had been in that movie theater in Colorado.

Would there have been several less people dead and dozens less wounded?

I think it was in a Robert Heinlein book that I first read the phrase, "an armed society is a polite society".

Do you think James Holmes would have gone to the theater if he'd thought, "well, nearly every adult there will be armed"?  Or would he have thought, "maybe I'd better just shoot myself and end it quickly and cleanly rather than possible be wounded multiple times very seriously and it's gonna hurt one hell of a lot".

I have mostly avoided large public gatherings all my life simply out of a dislike of huge anonymous crowds.  This shooting however will not have a big impact on me personally, but for 80 some odd people and their family and friends it's something that will drastically change their lives forever.

Always, always be aware of your surroundings, and have a personal plan for defense of yourself and your loved ones.

Why?

Why does the United States have to do anything? http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/07/18/us-syria-crisis-usa-idUSBRE86H1ET20120718

When did we take the Syrians to raise? For years we've bad mouthed Assad.  Now we want to save him.

"The window is closing, we need to take action in a unified way to help bring about the transition that the Syrian people so deserve," White House spokesman Jay Carney said at a news conference.

This is Washington speak for, "we want to be in control of what happens in Syria".

Why not let the Syrians duke it out for them selves.  All we'll do by engaging in a power struggle with Russia or any of the factions in that area is piss them off, waste Billions of dollars, and, probably, in the end, waste the blood and lives of military and civilian people for something we'll regret.

We certainly need a government that does less.

Domino

Is this the first major federal domino?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444097904577535322022316422.html?mod=WSJ_hppMIDDLENexttoWhatsNewsSecond

The USPS has been hemorrhaging money like blood from a botched backstreet abortion for years.
Is it time to pull the plug?
Anything I need to send anywhere, if it can't be done electronically, I use Fedex.  Does it cost more?  Yes, but I'll gladly spend the few extra shekels to promptness and security.

Like many another federal program the USPS as is presently structured is doomed.  Eleven Billion each year is mandated they put into retirement accounts and retirement health accounts.  That's with a B .

Wouldn't it make more sense to phase out those payments.  Require the remaining employees to pay into a retirement account that they will own and control such as is the social security program in Chile.  While you might think Chile is a third world country, their social security program is a diamond in a world of gravel.

What will be next?  Already cities all over the country are either declaring bankruptcy, or thinking seriously.

It's coming.

Are you ready?

Seriously?

Really?

POTUS meets with Jerry Springer
  http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/news/local_news/president-obama-lands-in-tri-state-traffic-delays-can-be-expected
 and we're supposed to take him seriously?

Idiots

Leftest idiots in Cali-fucked up are considering a plan to Condemn Mortgages.
Condemn them........take them over from the lawful holders of the legal Contracts, in effect, to seize the property of the legal owners and do what they think is in the best public interest with the government becoming the owners.

Just following the thief-in-charge Barrack who stole a large part of General Motors.

Check it out below.

Walking in the grass

I wonder if anybody ever stops by here any more.
Seems like when I come by I get distracted by reading those blogs I like and forget that I can throw up bits of wit and wisdom myself.  Well the wisdom is mostly in my own mind and the wit is of the dim kind.
The Kudzu Wife (KW) and I have been attempting to adapt to living in our new place of course.  Slowly I'm getting a few things done around here.  (very slowly it seems)   I've gotten a few panels of picket fence painted and put up along the front.  About 100' out of 400'.  I'm painting them before putting them up since they'll be backed by the 12' Leyland Cypress between us and the road.  If I paint one side of a panel and place it against the wall to dry on one side of the shed and the back side of another panel on the other side, I can get 3 to 4 a day done, letting the paint dry before laying another panel against it.
Finally we got a wall unit heat pump for the Green Room ( it has green carpet, which the wife isn't too keen on, hence the name).  I've moved the living room furniture in there.  The old living room will become in time the formal sitting room when we've found the right antiques to fill it.
We've a solitary apple tree in the yard.  Neglected for who knows how many years we were only able to get the bottom part pruned before warm weather sat in early this year.  I walked out thru the bermuda grass barefoot and picked one of the few apples this evening.  Walking barefoot in the grass eating one of your own apples has to be one of God's little gifts.

Earlier today I did a little practicing with one of these beauties.

High Standard Supermatic Citation Military Model 107 .22 long rifle.  6 1/4 inch fluted barrel.

After bore sighting with laser boresight tool @ 50 ft was far more accurate than the guy squeezing the trigger.  I'm convinced with a gun rest this baby would put a full clip in a hole that would fit under a quarter at that range.  They took many an international championship back in the day.  It's tapped for barrel weights and machined to take muzzle brake.

Me like.........Me want

We've had a good bit of rain the last few days.  Three inches on Thursday night.  The pooch is hiding under the desk right now because of rumbles off in the distance.

On my last post I mentioned second chances.  I guess no matter how old you get you're never too old for one of those.

Life is good my friends.  Don't let the bastards tell you otherwise.  It's all about how you perceive it.

Blackberry briars, Sweet Georgia Peaches and Pine Saps

I thought I'd broken my drought here at the Kudzu Patch the other day with a post on why I left the pine limb I'd been sitting on.
Turns out that since I'm too smart to read up on the new Blogger dashboard I mistakenly posted it on Second Chances, a blog I deserted some time ago.  It and another I put up tonight.
Seems too much trouble to try to move them.  If you want to see you can go to http://kdzu.blogspot.com/

Maybe I need some second chances myself.

Time will tell.
