What if?

..just one person with a concealed carry permit had been in that movie theater in Colorado.

Would there have been several less people dead and dozens less wounded?

I think it was in a Robert Heinlein book that I first read the phrase, "an armed society is a polite society".

Do you think James Holmes would have gone to the theater if he'd thought, "well, nearly every adult there will be armed"?  Or would he have thought, "maybe I'd better just shoot myself and end it quickly and cleanly rather than possible be wounded multiple times very seriously and it's gonna hurt one hell of a lot".

I have mostly avoided large public gatherings all my life simply out of a dislike of huge anonymous crowds.  This shooting however will not have a big impact on me personally, but for 80 some odd people and their family and friends it's something that will drastically change their lives forever.

Always, always be aware of your surroundings, and have a personal plan for defense of yourself and your loved ones.

I wish I'd been in that theater...I would've dropped him, if possible.

As would I. What seems so simple and natural to you and I though is unthinkable to the liberals and their fascist governments. Watch for the screams and cries for more gun control. It's always the crazed lone gunman that makes an appearance when they need one to further an agenda.
Conspiracy??
Wish I knew.

I don't know if the presence of an armed populace is a deterent for people like that. Maybe, maybe not. I'd like to *think* it would be... but then again I'm looking at things from my perspective and not from the perspective of a person deranged enough to do what he did.

What I do know, however, is that I stand a much better chance of defending myself and my loved ones by taking charge of my own defense. I can't imagine finding myself in the position of having no other option but to throw my body in front of my wife in a theater while some nutjob shoots me, and then shoots her afterward anyway.

I don't understand the mindset of people who meekly surrender themselves to such a fate by choosing not to have at hand the means to defend themselves and their loved ones. That guy was just like a fox in a henhouse.

I decided long ago to never find myself in the position of helpless chicken.

Amen Paladin. My decision was made long ago. The many years notwithstanding, I still believe it to be the right decision. Something about my Life and my Rights having been given to me by God. Our Responsibility to defend that life and rights still remains with us, regardless of having delegated some others to help in that self defense.

@Paladin

I would much rather have a gun and not need it, than to need one and not have it. There ail always be crazies out there, and anyone can get a gun. Legal or not.
